02/21/2026 2:00pm 02/21/2026 4:00pm Free Workshop: Painting Karl the Fog with Mário Pires Cordeiro

Rainy Week? Come paint Karl the Fog with Mário Pires Cordeiro! Participants in this FREE workshop will have a chance to experiment with varied abstract painting, collage and 2D composition techniques inspired by the landscape of San Francisco. Focusing on layering, texture and atmosphere, the worksop will explore Karl as an active character rather than a background element, encouraging artists to think about softened edges, onscured details and mystery. Materials will be provided, this workshop is designed for all ages.

Mário’s collaborative art project with his students at George Peabody Elementary School is currently featured as part of the current Dialogues 2026 exhibition which is on view through March 28, 2026. Inspired by Karl the Fog, this site-specific, ‘cloud-shaped’ installation uses many of the same techniques which will be covered in the workshop, such as layering, 2D composition and abstract painting.
