Feather Drawing Workshop with Renée Gertler (FREE)
Saturday, January 24, 2–4 PM
SFArtsED gallery, 1275 Minnesota street
Join us for a free, hands-on Feather Drawing Workshop led by Renée Gertler. No two feathers are alike yet they allow birds to fly, provide warmth, act as camouflage and give birds personality! Using simple brushes and ink, participants will be able to practice key observation techniques and render their own feather to take home. This workshop is designed for all ages, materials will be provided.
“Feathers for Peace began on Inauguration Day In January of 2025 as a quiet, personal response to the current administration. Every day since, I have painted a single feather-ideally one that I have found that same day. The practice is part ritual, part reflection, and perhaps a bit of magical thinking: if I paint enough feathers, maybe I can find a way to rise above the weight of the current moment. Feathers have become a symbol of hope and resistance for me. Join me in this workshop as we paint feathers as a small gesture that can restore a sense of peace.” – Renée Gertler
Renée Gertler, a native of Santa Barbara, holds a BFA and MFA in Sculpture from the California College of the Arts. Her work has been exhibited at institutions including Southern Exposure, Eleanor Harwood Gallery, Et al., Anglim Trimble, the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), and the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery.
